Windsor, ON – The 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge Host Committee officially declared itself “Open For Business” at a Media Conference held earlier today at the WFCU Centre in Windsor.
Ever since the announcement in July that the prestigious Hockey Canada event was coming to Windsor Essex from December 28, 2011 to January 7, 2012, the Host Committee has been working to put infrastructure in place for the event featuring 5 teams representing Canada (Atlantic, Quebec, Ontario, West, Pacific), and 5 international squads (USA, Czech Republic, Russia, Germany, Sweden).
The official game schedule was released today and includes 10 games at each of the WFCU Centre, the Vollmer Culture and Recreational Complex in LaSalle, and Tecumseh Arena. The UCCU Complex in Amherstburg and the Essex Sports Centre Complex will play host to exhibition games. The Bronze and Gold Medal games will be played in Windsor.
The 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge logo was officially revealed today by Windsor Spitfires’ Co-owner and Governor Peter Dobrich, who is also the 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge Event Chair. He also spoke about the “Paint The Town Red and White” program and encouraged fans and business owners to embrace the event to generate national pride in the same manner as the Vancouver Olympics.
Event mascot Puckster was introduced today and will be spotted at minor hockey games, schools and charity events in Windsor Essex. There was also a call for event volunteers and local business sponsors with more information available under the 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge section of www.hockeycanada.ca.
Five Canadian teams, five international teams, and the future of Canadian Hockey on display; it’s all happening this winter in Windsor Essex, and with ticket sales starting October 4th, it’s “Open For Business” for the Host Committee of the 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
