Mayor Eddie Francis proudly announces the 2011 Team Windsor Essex athletes who will represent our city and region in the 5th International Children’s Winter Games, January 26-31, 2011 in Kelowna, British Columbia:
Alpine Skiing: Alex Deans and Amanda Sippala, Coach: Caroline Sippala
Figure Skating: Madeline Potts and Molly Ghanam, Coaches: David Beatty and Jennifer Jackson
Boys Hockey: Sun County Panthers Bantam Minor, Coach: Mike Heikkinen.
Dalton Langlois, DJ Wales, Marshal Laing, Brett Markham, Matthew Zelko, Tyler Russell, Zach Guilbeault, Dylan Enns, Noah Bushnell, Austin Hall, Zachary Prentice, Brendan McGhee, Alex Friesen, Colin Lauzon, Brett Primmeau, Aleks Dobrich, Kyler Carter and Colin Tetreault.
Panther Zach Gilbeault was the first to answer the call for submissions in September to have his team represent the region at the upcoming games. Thanks to his determination, the Panthers applied, and the team’s coach and parents unanimously supported the bid.
The “Countdown to Kelowna” is on, with a number of events coming up in Windsor over the coming weeks.
On Sunday, January 2, “Battle of the Boys” will see Team Windsor Essex square off against the Windsor Spitfires at 11:00 a.m. at the WFCU Centre. Tickets are available for $5.00 at Blades Pro Shop in the WFCU Centre, at Devonshire Mall customer care stations, and Skate Pro in Tecumseh Arena.
On Friday, January 14, the Countdown to Kelowna Youth Dance will rock the Teutonia Club from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. Students in grades 7, 8 and 9 are welcome to come and enjoy the celebration (student card required for high schoolers). Tickets are available at the Teutonia Club and from Team Windsor Essex athletes. Students can choose $5.00 general admission or $10.00 V.I.P. admission, including coat check and reserved seating.
