Spitfires Sign Posa, Nishi,Lanoue and Whaley to OHL Contracts

(Windsor) Windsor Spitfires General Manager Warren Rychel today announced that the team has signed defenseman Saverio Posa, goaltender Michael Nishi as well as forwards Derek Lanoue and Michael Whaley to OHL contracts and education packages.

Saverio Posa was selected by the Spitfires with the team’s final draft pick in the 15th round, 298th overall in the 2008 OHL Priority Selection with Michael Nishi being picked by Windsor in the 10th round, 200th overall during this past year’s OHL Priority Selection. Michael Whaley was also selected by Windsor with the team’s final pick in the 13th round, 260th overall in this year’s OHL Priority Selection while Derek Lanoue joined the Spitfires as a walk-on for their most recent 2009 Prospect and Training Camps. Each player has also played in pre-season games for the Spitfires.

“We’re very pleased to add Posa, Nishi, Lanoue and Whaley to our organization. These young gentlemen were pleasant surprises for our team and their success speaks volumes about their work ethic and determination. We would also like to recognize the efforts of our scouting staff for finding talented players such as these four young men. Each player has a chance to be part of this organization in the upcoming years. Their play in the last two exhibition games will determine if they join us for our regular season opener here at the WFCU Centre on September 17th against Plymouth,” said Windsor Spitfires Vice-President and General Manger Warren Rychel.

In other news, the Windsor Spitfires also announced that they have released left-winger Matt Mascarin.
