Spitfires Fall to Whalers 3-1 on Labour Day at the WFCU Centre

(Windsor) The Windsor Spitfires welcomed 5,859 fans to the WFCU Centre earlier this afternoon for their annual Labour Day pre-season game, facing off against the Plymouth Whalers, with the Spitfires dropping their first game of the exhibition schedule, losing to the Whalers by a count of 3-1. With the loss, the Spitfires’ record drops to 2-1 in the pre-season.

Windsor opened the scoring at 1:30 of the first period as Ben Dubois won a clean draw in Plymouth’s zone to defenseman Saverio Posa who ripped a slapshot from the point and was redirected in the Whaler goal by Conor O’Donnell for his first marker of the pre-season.

Spitfires Luke Turcotte, Ben Dubois and Matt Mascarin also participated in some spirited battles with Whaler combatants during the contest and the Spitfires held a one-goal lead until midway through the third period as Plymouth evened the score on an Austin Mattson shorthanded marker at 9:29.

Austin Levi gave the Whalers their first lead of the game at the 12:49 of the third period and Tyler G. Brown scored an insurance marker for Plymouth at 18:39 to secure victory for the visiting side.
