(WINDSOR, ON) The Windsor Express Professional Basketball Team will hold open auditions for their Female Dance Team for the upcoming 2012-2013 season on September 16, 2012.
Dartis Willis, President and CEO, decided, “We have to have a Professional Dance Team that can keep the crowd entertained just as well as the basketball players, if not more”. Mr. Willis believes the dance team is an aspect that is vital to the entertainment component of the game. Mr. Willis has hired Northstar Cheer to recruit, train, and choreograph routines for the dance team. He stated, “After their stunning performance at our first press conference, we wanted to be on their team”.
Chris Mendes, General Manager for The Windsor Express said, “We are expecting a huge response, over 300 ladies. We want the public to get involved. Local judges will help decide who makes the final cut down to 10 ladies”.
Connie Day, coordinator of events for Northstar Cheer, is very excited about putting together the dance team. She said, “The ladies will have to be good communicators, outgoing, and beautiful inside and out. They will need to possess a desire to help the community because when it boils down to it, that’s what it’s all about; what positive impact can your role have on others”. Connie says she plans to help the girls “build their dossier” so they can be their own brand. “Our expectations are high,” she remarked, “But, we plan to develop them in ways they would not have imagined.”
Connie used to be a dancer with a company that was started by Cheryl McCurdy, owner of Northstar Cheer. She has several years of experience coordinating multifaceted events. The candidates must be able to attend both auditions. There will be a mixer for the ladies and judges after Open Auditions, 9.16.12. Final Call back is the evening of the Invite Only Audition, 9.23.12 and will be open for the public to help determine the final 10. The team is looking for a venue to host the Final Call Back event.

(WINDSOR, ON) City Council approved the Lease to make WFCU Centre home of The Windsor Express last night.
Chris Mendes, General Manager for the Windsor Express, showed his gratitude, “I would like to thank City Council and Administration for all of their support on their decision to allow us go forward with the WFCU lease as well as the basketball floor. The investment will surely get put to good use in this community. Our plan is to involve this community as much as possible, whether it be volunteering at community events, talking to kids, or shooting hoops with our fans. We want to assure you that our plan is to extend our contract after our successful first season, and look forward to the many successful seasons in the Windsor community”.
Dartis Willis, President and CEO, excitedly commented, “The city recognized what we had been trying to profess since we set our sights on Windsor last year as a franchise opportunity. With this partnership, our dreams are coming into fruition for the team and the people of Windsor alike”.

NEW SEASON, NEW OWNERS FOR CANADIENS
In Play Magazine
Belle River—The Jr. C Belle River Canadiens will start the 2012-13 hockey season with new owners.
The team was purchased by Cypher Systems Group and will join the LaSalle Jr. B Vipers as part of its sports division.
“This is good news for the team,” says former Canadiens owner Greg McDonough. “The time has come for me to move on and pass the reins to some new blood. It is a great move for the team and for our community. The new owners are also local so it’s great news for hockey in Essex County.”
Cypher Systems Group executive John Savage says very little is expected to change under its ownership. “The Canadiens are a great club with a storied history and a strong, loyal fan base. We are committed to building on this. And as with the Vipers, the Canadiens have an outstanding group of volunteers for which they are forever indebted.”
Savage says Cypher Systems Group has a diverse group of companies but with deep roots in Essex County. “We give back to our communities in a variety of ways; supporting and helping develop and maintain hometown hockey is just one of them. These junior hockey teams are an integral part of the Canadian fabric and we feel privileged to be a part of it.”
Canadiens GM and Coach Mark Seguin looks forward to keeping his focus on the ice. “We have a strong team and we will continue to play hockey at the highest level possible. CSG is a great organization I am looking forward to this partnership both with the owners and with the Vipers.”

118 Ontario Athletes Compete at 2012 Olympics
In Play Magazine
Ontario is proud to support the province’s high performance athletes on Team Canada as they begin to compete at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
This year, 118 Ontario athletes — and 29 Ontario coaches — will represent Canada and inspire the nation and our province as they compete for a spot on the podium. Of 118 athletes, 90 have benefitted from Ontario’s Quest for Gold program that helps athletes reach the highest level of international competition by providing access to high-performance training and competitive opportunities.
Quest for Gold recipients will be competing in more than 50 events at the upcoming London Olympics including:
• Boxer Mary Spencer will be vying for gold in the first Olympic women’s boxing event.
• Jessica Zelinka will enter her second Olympics and compete in two events — the gruelling heptathlon and women’s 100-metre hurdles.
• Adam Van Koeverden will be looking to add to his three Olympic medals in sprint kayak.
• Ian Millar will make his tenth Olympic appearance and seek to bring home another medal in show jumping with his horse Star Power.
• Karen Cockburn will look to extend her winning streak on the trampoline by earning a medal for the fourth consecutive time at the Olympic Games.
Ontarians will also have the opportunity to cheer on some of our honoured athletes when the Greater Golden Horseshoe plays host to the highly anticipated 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games.
