Windsor Team Wins in Ontario Special Olympics Soccer

VAUGHAN, ON – The Special Olympics division of the Ontario Cup kicked-off Sunday (September 19) morning with a two-game series between the Windsor Caboto Specials and the Brampton Panthers.


In the first game, the Windsor Caboto Specials came out strong and managed to slip 5 goals past the Brampton keeper.

Windsor’s goals were scored by John Theoret, Mitchell Farnham (friend of In Play!), Steven Kwasnycia and Jeff Badgley who netted two.

Brampton was able to find the back of the net to notch one on the scoreboard. Alex Lue-Shins is creditted with the goal.

In the second game, the Specials repeated their strong performance, defeating the Brampton Panthers by a score of 6-1.

The Specials’ goals were scored by Jeff Badgley, Hank Cook, John Theoret, Mitchell Farnam, James Boyce and Steven Kwasnycia.

The lone Panthers marker was scored by George Ricardo.

Consistent with the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by both sides in Sunday’s games, the Windsor Caboto Specials (blue kit) insisted on the Panthers (maroon kit) joining them for the official team photo.

Windsor Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Earns 23 Medals at Cobo Tourney

Windsor Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy participated in a tournament held in Detroit Michigan's Cobo Hall for the Great Lakes Grappling Championship. The tournament brought several styles; jiu jitsu- Brazilian and Japanese, wrestling and judo to the front. The Windsor Brazilian Jiu Jitsu team members received awards for the Largest Youth Team and Most Supportive Team.


The Windsor Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Competition Team returned to Canada and declared 23 medals in all with 9 Gold, 9 silver and 5 bronze.

This tournament was followed up by the Annual Team Canada vs Team USA, where participants from the tournament may compete to represent their country. As both side were limited due to time constraints, Team Canada was once again victorious winning the coveted Cup for the event – with Team Canada winning 7 to 5 against Team USA. It was a well deserved match and entertaining as well. As always; the hard work showed through.

Windsor, Ont. – The community is invited to join us for our 4th Annual Financial Family Feud Walk-A-Thon on Sunday September 26 at Malden Park. Once again the following Financial Institutions are sponsoring this wonderful event to raise funds for our community children: RBC Financial Group, Scotiabank, Motor City Community Credit Union, Desjardins Caisse Populaire, United Communities Credit Union, Windsor Family Credit Union and PriceWaterHouseCoopers.

The day will begin with a Best Dressed Pet Contest followed by a warm up and then participants will enjoy a lovely 5 KM walk in beautiful Malden Park. There will be kids activities including a Teddy Bear Clinic, Crafts, Face Painting and of course food and refreshments. This will be a great family event and anyone interested in participating is asked to visit their branch of the participating institutions or call the W.E. Care for Kids office for further details.
